The Kootenay Fiddle, Guitar and Piano Camp is returning this summer, for the 22nd year! Prominent instructors from across Canada are returning to the Castlegar campus of Selkirk College this July 16th-18th, including Gordon Stobbe, JJ Guy, Geoff Horrocks, and Janis Anderson. The goal of the camp is to help novice to advanced people of all ages and abilities improve their fiddle, back-up guitar or piano, and to share a love of traditional music with new friends. It’s a great opportunity to get re-inspired and boost your learning, or for those who have been wanting to try the fiddle, it’s the perfect time to start! The registration deadline is June 17th, and spots are limited, so register early!
Co-sponsored by Selkirk College and BC Old Time Fiddlers #9, the camp will consist of three days of learning, daily jam sessions and evening activities.
“It is three days of fun, fiddling, and friendship. We look forward to seeing lots of old familiar faces and many new ones this summer!” says Denise Chernoff, one of the OTF volunteer organizers.
Despite the rising cost of living, we are excited to say that we have been able, thanks to our generous sponsors, to provide this year’s camp at the same price as last year. We are also excited to be able to offer scholarships to this year’s camp. For information on how to apply for the scholarships, please email Denise at denisechernoff@gmail.com
Selkirk College provides personal experiences that build confident and imaginative learners ready to thrive in their community and in our dynamic world.
The BC Old Time Fiddlers’ Association was formed to promote and encourage old time music, to foster connections among the fiddling communities throughout BC as well as Canada, and to encourage young people to take up fiddling. Members also play all kinds of other instruments or they may simply love the music and dancing. BCOTF #9 is a non-profit organization with members from all around the Kootenays. Our members now play at community events, private functions and care homes in the Castlegar, Trail and Nelson areas as well as having jam sessions once a week. Come join us!
Registering by the June 17th deadline is vital to ensure those interested reserve a spot before the popular event fills.
