IT IS THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN WHEN CFNKLS SUPPORTS THE COMMUNITIES OF NORTH KOOTENAY LAKE……GRANTING TIME. The window for grant applications is March 1st to April 16th. There is a link from our site, https://nklcommunityfund.org, to the Osprey Community Foundation web site where the applications can be made. Charities and qualified donees can make applications. If your organization is a non-profit you can be sponsored by either of the former. Community Foundations hope to be able to offer grant opportunities in the future directly to non-profits.
The Community Fund of North Kootenay Lake Society (CFNKLS) was founded in 2005. We have made grants annually since 2006 starting with $6,420 (Endowed funds $265,000) to 2023 $53,485 (Endowed funds $1,183,000). Our endowed funds have received donor funds every year and large bequests as well which has built our funds. Once our fund grew over $1,000,000 Vancouver Foundation, who invests our endowed funds, has given a portion of our fees each year from which we now pay our expenses, contribute to the Treasure Hunt fund and donate to our general endowed fund.
Our mission is to support resilient and thriving communities and we look for this in applications made. We funds that support Seniors; Children, Youth and Families; the Environment; Arts, Culture and Heritage initiatives. Also a General fund to supplement requests in those areas. The Kootenay Savings Community foundation has a fund with us as well as the McKinnon Family who issues a bursary annually and gives a donation to the library and health centre.
We welcome donations to our funds. Donors who care about their community and want to see their donations build and offer grants for years to come.
