This year the Greater Trail Hospice Society (GTHS) is once again holding its biggest fundraiser of the year, the Swimathon. This year we are asking people to support ‘Splash for Cash’ by either swimming or pledging a swimmer. The event will be held on Thursday, March 5 between noon and 8 pm at the Trail Aquatic and Leisure Centre.
Swimmers receive pledges from friends, family and coworkers and commit to swimming a set number of laps which they set themselves. Some swim for five laps but some swim for much longer, 100 laps is not uncommon. This year we have a swimmer who intends to swim 5.9 kilometers in preparation for a swim of 11.8 km later this summer. Whether its five laps or 100 or more the swimmers are all raising money for Hospice and deserve support. The Swimathon is our only fundraiser of the year.
The money raised augments donations and a small contract with IHA in order to keep Hospice sustainable and financially viable in the Greater Trail area. The GTHS sees more demand for our services on a monthly basis. We provide a valuable service with trained volunteers to provide bedside respite for caregivers, education about end of life issues, help navigating the health care system and so much more.
If you would like more information about swimming or pledging please contact the Hospice office at 250-364-6204.
GTHS is associated with the BC Hospice Palliative Care Association and the Hospice Foundation of America.
