The Trail & District Arts Council and The Royal Theatre have joined together to imagine your new, favourite family experience, Silver Screen Outdoor Movies at Haley Park in Warfield. Running at dusk on May 27 and July 16 this mini hit of films will bring you heartwarming fun.
After a successful Summer of drive-in movies in 2021, TDAC and The Royal Theatre wanted to try another fun outdoor movie event but this time in the open air without the cars. Nadine Tremblay, executive director of the Trail Arts Council, said, “To make this fun event accessible to everyone we are running the event by donation. We are suggesting that each person pay $5 where possible. We want families, couples, and friends all to come out to enjoy this nostalgic film classic.”
Doors for the event will open at 7:15 pm, for an 8:15 pm screening, to allow people time to mingle, treat themselves to Royal Theatre popcorn and set up their chairs and blankets to cozy up under the stars. Tickets will only be available at the door with cash or card payment options available. No advanced tickets need to be purchased.
Our first movie, on Friday, May 27, is The Princess Bride, a classic fairy tale comedy, with swordplay, giants, an evil prince, and a beautiful princess. As a grandfather reads the book to his sick grandson, who is sure he won’t like the story, the boy gets pulled into the story of Buttercup, Westley, and the Dread Pirate Roberts. The Princess Bride is a movie beloved by “grown-ups” that you’ll now get to share in a big screen experience with your kids.
The other screening in this series is The Lego Movie on Saturday, July 16. The irreverent family adventure follows the perfectly average LEGO construction worker, Emmett, who is thought to be the prophesied “special”. When Emmett joins free-spirited heroine, Wyldstyle, an old mystic and LEGO Batman on an epic quest to stop an evil tyrant from gluing the universe together Emmett is hopelessly and hilariously underprepared to have the fate of the world is in his tiny yellow hands.
If the weather gets in the way of an outdoor screening, there’s no need to miss out as movies will be moved indoors to The Bailey Theatre at 1501 Cedar Ave., in Trail. The Silver Screen Outdoor Movie is sponsored by Bounce Radio, Kootenay Savings Credit Union, Teck Metals Ltd., and Tourism Rossland, and made possible thanks to support from the Government of British Columbia and BC Arts Council.
