The beloved Members’ Show and Sale returns to the Nelson Museum, Archives & Gallery in 2023! This open, salon-style exhibition features work across all mediums, submitted by the Nelson Museum membership to highlight the talent, dedication and passion that exists within the Nelson and District art community.

“Curating the Members Show is always such an interesting endeavour as it allows us to see firsthand what techniques, styles, and mediums are being explored in our community and to have the opportunity to celebrate local artists,” says Museum Curator Arin Fay. “With the breadth of artwork we will have on display it is guaranteed to be a compelling exhibition.”

The Members’ Show is an accessible way for artists – from seasoned professionals to first-time exhibitors – to experience the excitement of showcasing work in a gallery setting. All pieces in the show can be made available for sale at a 60/40 split between the artist and the museum, providing an excellent opportunity to support local artists and fundraise for accessible museum programming. This year’s exhibition is curated by the Assistant Curator Saydie Bubniw, who is working with the Museum through the Young Canada Works program.

“As someone beginning my own journey in the arts, it’s extremely gratifying to have the opportunity to support local artists with professional development and work towards widening access and inclusion in the museum space,” Bubniw says. “My hope is that this show will serve as a platform for deepening community connection, building authentic relationships between diverse groups, and celebrating the individuals that make Nelson the place it is.”

The 2023 exhibition runs from March 18 to May 6, with an opening reception on Friday, March 17 from 7-9pm. For more information on this and other exhibitions, visit nelsonmuseum.ca
