Nelson Grans to Grans group welcomes new members. Founded in 2006, grandmothers and “grand others” come together in a spirit of camaraderie and fellowship, working to raise funds to support grandmothers in Africa who are raising grandchildren orphaned by the AIDS and the HIV pandemic. The group is one of 160 grandmother groups across Canada supporting the Grandmothers Campaign of the Stephen Lewis Foundation, championing health and human rights with community-led partners to respond to the HIV pandemic (that still exists to this day) in sub‑Saharan Africa.

Local fundraising activities include bake sales, plant sales, sales of planet-loving items such as reusable beeswax food wraps and their newest item, cat collars, whose bright colours alert birds to fly away safely. Central Bark is selling these collars with all proceeds going to support Nelson Grans work.

Women in the Nelson area who would like more information about how to join or learn more about the group’s activities and meetings are welcome to email nelsongrans2grans@gmail.com or check out the website nelsongrans2grans@weebly.com.  For more on the Stephen Lewis Foundation, go to https://grandmotherscampaign.org The spirit of solidarity is alive and thrives in Nelson!
