The Capitol Theatre is thrilled to be hosting the 31st annual Summer Youth Program. This year’s auditions will take place on Sunday, April 26 from 6 pm to 8 pm and April 27 from 10 am to 4 pm at the Nelson United Church, 602 Silica Street. Auditions are open for youth age 13 – 21. In preparation for the auditions please have a song ready to sing for the directors so that they can hear your vocal range. Please contact the Capitol Theatre box office to schedule an audition time.

Roald Dahl’s James and the Giant Peach is a musical for the whole family to enjoy! Featuring a wickedly tuneful score by the Tony award nominated team of Pasek and Paul. Critics rave: James and the Giant Peach is a “masterpeach!” When James is sent by his conniving aunts to chop down their old fruit tree, he discovers a magic potion that results in a tremendous peach... and launches a journey of enormous proportions.

Each year this program’s youth cast works together with experienced directors to create theatre productions that have become a tradition for Nelson and area theatre goers. This year’s director is Adriana Bogaard, musical director is Malaika Horswill and choreographer, Mackenzie Hope.

The program runs daily, 9 am – 4 pm, July 2 – July 27. Four performances will take place July 25, 26, 27 at 7:30 pm and Saturday, July 27 at 2 pm.

This Capitol Theatre program has provided several generations of youth with profound experiences and life-long memories. It has endowed them a deep love and appreciation of the arts, helping create the future audiences here at the Capitol and elsewhere. It has grounded them in the Capitol Theatre and in this community, creating a sense of connection and home that will last all their lives. For more information about the program visit our website
