Rossland Winter Carnival

Olaus Jeldness would be amazed. He was the Norwegian miner who, way back in 1898, initiated Canada’s Oldest Winter Carnival.

This years carnival kicks off on Thursday night, January 24 with the Bobsled Calcutta at the Legion and the Winter Carnival Variety Show at RSS, sure to be fun for the whole family. The fun continues on Friday night with the carnival parade and performances by fire spinners Pyro4ya and the party begins at Olaus Ice Palace Beer Gardens. Take in the snow statues created by world famous artist of Slocan Snow Sculptures and the carved ice bar while listening to the live music of ‘The Foggy Goggle Boys’.

Still more to come on Saturday the 26 of January, starting with the Fireman’s Pancake breakfast in the morning and the amazing Sonny Samuelson Bobsled Race that comes screaming down Spokane Street. If these crazy participants ignite your need for speed head up to Red Mountain and Learn to Luge!

Olaus would be astounded to see boarders and skiers flying through the air during Saturday’s fantastic ‘The Game Rail Jam’ competition that takes place downtown right beside the very same post office that he knew. Saturday night have fun skiing and boarding free under the lights at RED Mountain Resort’s Family Fun Night or dance the night away to ‘Scenic Route to Alaska’ who are preforming at Olaus Ice Palace as part of the Blizzard Music Festival.
